The factory has a crude oil extraction capacity of 7,500 tons per year and a refining capacity of 3,000 tons per year, being the first industry of this size in the province.
The total investment – development and installation of the plant – was about 300 million meticais, and benefited from financing of 123 million meticais from the SUSTENTA Program to guarantee the raw material, by promoting the production of 40,000 families, and from the Catalytic Fund for Innovation and Demonstration (from the World Bank) in the amount of about 92 million meticais.
The strategic importance of the model adopted by SUSTENTA in this plant stems from the integration of 40,000 cotton and soy producers, to supply the raw material (oilseeds), from which truly “Made in Mozambique” cooking oil will be extracted and refined.
Globally, the price of cooking oil has suffered an increase of about 100%, and has been one of the products of greatest pressure on the agricultural trade balance, where Mozambique annually imports about 400 million U.S. dollars, representing about 30% of the import weight of agricultural products.
For the Campaign 2021-2022, the data points to a growth of 14% in oilseeds, driven by sesame with 25% and soybeans with 5%.
