On one side, gas production begins; on the other, the Government is already counting on the revenues from gas to make the first deposits in the Sovereign Fund.
In the document to which “O País” had access, two moments are defined for the saving of gas revenues. The first is for the first 15 years, during which 60% of the revenues should be channelled to the State Budget and the remaining 40% to the Single Account of the Fund; after this period, starting in the 16th year, the division will be in half.
This proposal differs from the previous one, coming from the Bank of Mozambique, in the percentages. While the Central Bank suggested that the division between the State Budget and the Fund should be 50%, the Government’s proposal is that the Budget deserves 60% during the first 15 years.
Thus, since the law talks about 30 million dollars to be invested this year, the first deposit should be 12 million dollars.
