CTA attends SADC Business Council General Assembly

Of the activities presented, we highlight the Private Sector Dialogue on Pro-Jobs Policies and Strategies in SADC and the Joint Ministerial Sectoral Dialogue on Pro-Jobs Policies and Strategies in SADC, which were held in Malawi in April and July 2022, respectively.

There was also reflection on the need for members to strengthen their interventions/advocacy on non-tariff barriers at the regional level.

At the meeting, CTA took the opportunity to submit for discussion the concern raised by the road cargo transporters of Mozambique, regarding the mandatory payment of migration fees to foreign carriers in Zambia when they complete 90 days of stay, the requirement for simultaneous payment of road fees and toll fees.

CTA argued that this measure is in the “opposite direction” of the ongoing process of creating a free trade area at the regional level.
