ENH and Sasol plan to start producing cooking gas in Inhassoro by the end of the year

Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) has announced that the cooking gas processing unit in Inhassoro, Inhambane province, could start production by the end of this year. The forecast was made by the chairman of ENH’s Board of Directors (PCA), Estêvão Pale, in the 2023 report and accounts released by the company.

The Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) project in partnership with South African petrochemical company Sasol foresees the implementation of the Temane Thermal Power Plant (CTT), with a capacity of 450 megawatts of electricity, and the 30,000 tons per year cooking gas (LPG) processing plant in Inhassoro. It is estimated that production could begin by the end of 2024.

In addition to LPG production, the PSA project also includes the production of 53 million megajoules of natural gas per year and the production of 4,000 barrels of light oil per day.

The 2023 fiscal year was marked by a reduction in the activities of projects in the Rovuma basin, in the north of Cabo Delgado province, due to the maintenance of the ‘force majeure’ invoked in 2021 by TotalEnergies, in response to the terrorist attacks, as described by ENH’s CEO.

ENH, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy(MIREME), is dedicated to prospecting, research, development, production, transportation, transmission and marketing of hydrocarbons and their derivatives, including imports and exports. The company has more than 220 employees and a share capital of 749 million meticais.
