China forgives USD 7 million of Mozambique’s debt

The partial debt forgiveness was announced in Maputo, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Veronica Macamo, after signing, with the Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique, Wang Hejun, the Agreement on Partial Debt Forgiveness in allusion and the Protocol on Economic and Technical Cooperation worth 14 million USD and the delivery of the Certificate of 295 tons of wheat flour for humanitarian assistance.

The information comes one month after Beijing announced the forgiveness of 23 interest-free loans due until the end of 2021 for 17 African countries during the ninth China-Africa Cooperation Forum.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the gesture is another unequivocal symbol of the deep friendship, solidarity and cooperation forged since the times of the national liberation struggle, in which the People’s Republic of China gave its precious multiform support to the cause of self-determination of the Mozambican people.

For his part, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China stressed that the donations are a concrete manifestation of the joint implementation of the various measures of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, and a true picture of the deepening and strengthening of friendship and brotherhood between China and Mozambique.
