Inhambane plans to license more than 40 new tourist developments

The authorities in Inhambane province are planning to license more than 40 new tourist developments this year, with the aim of increasing accommodation and restaurant capacity to cater for the growing number of visitors arriving in the region.

In 2023, these developments underwent analysis, representing a total investment of more than 542 million meticais. It is hoped that they will all soon be operational, following the established standards.

“These infrastructures will create more job opportunities for young people and improve the supply of restaurant and entertainment services,” said Emídio Nhantumbo, the provincial director of Culture and Tourism. He also highlighted the actions underway to attract more investment partners in the tourism sector, including participation in national and international fairs.

With regard to the statistics for 2023, Nhantumbo said that 32 new tourist developments had been licensed, resulting in an increase in accommodation capacity to 8,306 rooms and 14,560 beds.

During the festive season, more than 51,000 tourists visited the region, exceeding expectations of 40,000, most of them foreigners. The occupancy rate in the coastal resorts varied between 95% and 100%, leading some tourists to struggle to find accommodation and opt to stay with family, friends or acquaintances.
