Malhazine ecological park to receive tourism investment

In the next few days, a tripartite consortium made up of the Ministry of Land and Environment, Maputo City Council and hoteliers will begin setting up tourist developments in the Malhazine Ecological Park, formerly Paiol, in Maputo city.

The announcement was made by the municipal director of the Urban Development Office, Teresa Chissequere, during the validation meeting for the Malhazine Ecological Park operationalization plan, held last Thursday (25). According to O País, Chissequere highlighted the need for an investment of just over ten million dollars to make the initiative operational.

To mark the start of activities, signs will be put up, internal roads will be opened and a force will be created to control the 480 hectares that delimit the area of the Park. The park was created following the extinction of the Malhazine Paiol in 2012, with the aim of improving the quality of life of Maputo’s inhabitants, preserving the landscape and the region’s tourist potential.

Eneias Comiche, Mayor of Maputo, stressed that the implementation of environmentally friendly infrastructures is part of a package to enhance the tourism value of natural sites.

The initiative represents an important step towards tourism development in the region, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources and job creation in the sector. The Malhazine Ecological Park has the potential to become an attractive tourist destination, contributing to the local economy and promoting sustainable tourism in Mozambique.
