MRG Metals and MOZSHAQ Sign Partnership for Environmental and Social Assessment of Corridor Sands Project

MRG Metals, through its joint venture with Sinowin Lithium and Sinowin Lithium Cobalt, has signed a contract with MOZSHAQ to carry out an environmental and social assessment, as well as the resettlement action plan for the Corridor Sands Project, located in Mozambique.

The information was released on Monday, November 11, by the Mining news portal, which detailed the companies’ commitment to move forward with the formal approval stage of the project. The contract will last nine months and is budgeted at 31.6 million meticais (approximately 500 thousand dollars). The Corridor Sands Project, which is part of MRG Metals’ portfolio, covers two contiguous plots of land in southern Mozambique, totaling 387 square kilometers. According to the company, the central project covers 179 square kilometers, while the southern project area extends to 208 square kilometers. The venture has already identified 13 high-priority targets within the concession area.

The president of MRG Metals, Andrew Van Der Zwan, pointed out that the contract with MOZSHAQ is a crucial step towards securing the mining license, a process that should begin at the start of the contract period. “MOZSHAQ’s experience in environmental and socio-economic assessments will be essential as we move forward with formalizing the project. We are confident that their local knowledge, combined with their adherence to international standards, will result in high-quality assessments,” said Van Der Zwan. The executive also stressed the commitment of MRG Metals and its partners to sustainable mining practices, in line with international health, safety and environmental protection guidelines. MOZSHAQ, for its part, is committed to providing consultancy, auditing and training, optimizing project operations and ensuring compliance with national and international standards. MOZSHAQ is a company specializing in integrated consulting and auditing solutions in the areas of health, safety, the environment and quality. With an approach focused on technical assistance and compliance services with international standards, MOZSHAQ has been a strategic partner for several companies in the sector, contributing to the implementation of projects with a positive impact on both the environment and local communities.

The contract, which will be fully funded by Sinowin Lithium and Sinowin Lithium Cobalt, calls for installment payments over its term. MRG Metals, which has a market capitalization of 602.9 million meticais (9.54 million dollars), is proceeding with the project in partnership with Sinowin, which has been responsible for financing the joint venture.

With the signing of this agreement, the companies involved in the Corridor Sands Project reinforce their commitment to social and environmental responsibility and sustainable development in Mozambique. The environmental and social impact assessment is seen as a strategic step for the progress of the project, which has the potential to generate new investments and job opportunities in the country, as well as contributing to the strengthening of the local mineral industry.
