Tmcel invests USD 132 million in network transformation and modernization

The improvement of the network will allow the increase of the transmission backbone capacity, thus improving the performance in the connection of customers (companies and institutions) to the Internet, through the full use of broadband, whose capacity will increase from 50 to 400 gigs.

This information was disclosed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tmcel, Mahomed Rafique Jusob, on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between that telecommunications operator and APIEX-Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports, which took place during the Maputo International Fair (FACIM).

The agreement, according to Mahomed Rafique Jusob, aims at providing broadband services (internet) and telecommunications to the next editions of the largest agricultural, industrial and commercial fair in the country, to be made available to national and foreign exhibitors.

“We are doing the transformation and modernization of our network, investing US$132 million. We are currently installing the fiber optic backbone, which will increase from 50 gigs of capacity to 400 gigs, in order to expand the service capacity from Inchope to Tete, Inchope-Chimoio, Inchope-Nampula, and Inchope-Pemba,” he stressed.

This is a project that will enable expansion of the coverage and improvement of the quality of the Tmcel network, specifically with regard to voice and data services, as well as increasing the capacity and availability of services provided to customers.

At this moment, he said, the network modernization project is being carried out in Gaza province, after having already reached Morrumbene district in Inhambane.

In parallel with this project, the fixed and mobile telephony operator is installing several antennas in the city of Beira, Sofala province.
