Ministry of Mineral Resources tightens controls on the sale of diamonds and precious metals

A service order with the number 06/GM/2022, signed by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, consulted by Lusa, imposes the filling of the production control map and of the purchase and sale bulletin and maintenance of the respective file, for presentation to the competent authorities, whenever required.

It is also mandatory to fill out a statement, under oath, stating that the precious metals and gems subject to transaction do not come from conflict zones and that they were acquired legally.

After the authorized sale of precious stones or gems, proof of such transaction must be submitted to the Kimberley Process Management Unit, an international mechanism that promotes transparency in the business of precious minerals.

The proof, the service order explains, is for the identification of the ultimate buyer.
