Mozambique – Turkey Forum: APIEX highlights investment opportunities in the country

Maputo hosted the Mozambique – Turkey Business Forum on Thursday (30), with a focus on promoting business opportunities in Mozambique in priority sectors such as agriculture, industry, energy, infrastructure and tourism.

Speaking at the opening of the Forum, the Director General of the Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports (APIEX), Gil Bires, said that statistically, Turkey stands out as one of the ten largest investors in Mozambique over the last five years, with investments of over 130,000 US dollars. On the international stage, Turkey is the sixth largest investor in Mozambique.

On the one hand, Bires stressed that this business mission will open doors to more investment initiatives in the coming years, with APIEX available as an implementation partner.

“Mozambique, for its part, presents abundant opportunities. The country highlights its vast mineral and energy resource base, including heavy sands, iron, precious stones, natural gas, renewable energies, among others.

The Mozambican government has also announced a package of measures, called the Economic Acceleration Package, which includes a reduction in VAT from 17% to 16%, as well as a reduction in corporate income tax from 32% to 10%.

These initiatives aim to boost the business environment and attract foreign investment for the sustainable development of Mozambique. The Forum represents a crucial opportunity to strengthen ties and explore new strategic partnerships between Mozambique and Turkey.”

The event, which brought together economic agents from both countries, is organized by the Turkish Business Entourage, in partnership with the Republic of Turkey, and is coordinated by the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) and the Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports (APIEX).

It should be noted that Turkish companies operate in various sectors in Mozambique, with an emphasis on the manufacturing industry, real estate and tourism, among others.
