President of the Republic attends summit of gas exporting countries

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has begun a four-day working visit to Algeria, where he will take part in the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (FPEG/GECF). Nyusi will hold talks with Algerian leaders to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation, as well as visiting places of economic, historical and cultural interest.

The summit’s theme will be “Making Natural Gas the Central Resource for Inclusive and Sustainable Development”, addressing the trends and dynamics of the sector to promote a sustainable global environment and strengthen the role of gas exporting countries.

Mozambique has vast reserves of natural gas, with the potential to become one of the world’s top ten producers by 2040, accounting for 20% of Africa’s production. It is estimated that the reserves represent potential revenues of 100 billion dollars, highlighting the country’s importance in the international energy transition.

The projects to develop the natural gas reserves in Mozambique’s Rovuma basin are among the largest in the world, with the projects led by TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil/Eni standing out. These projects have the potential to significantly boost the Mozambican economy and position the country as an important player in the global natural gas market.
