M-Pesa and FARMAC facilitate payment for medicines in public pharmacies

With this partnership, Vodacom reinforces its role in making the lives of Mozambicans easier by providing an easy-to-use, fast and secure financial service from *150# and the My M-Pesa App.

This integration was made possible thanks to OPEN API, an open platform that allows any product or service provider to integrate and collect data from M-Pesa. This gives the more than five million customers of that mobile phone, another payment alternative at FARMAC pharmacies.

FARMAC hopes to reduce waiting time at pharmacies, with quick and secure access to collected amounts, better cash flow management, as well as settlement of amounts directly with bank accounts.

“This partnership reinforces our main commitment, which is to contribute to the development of Mozambican society, ensuring that it is possible to move money easily, quickly and safely, thus promoting financial inclusion,” said Tawanda Gota, acting general manager of Vodacom M-Pesa.

“Today, we are honored to join Vodafone M-Pesa, in recognition of the role and relevance demonstrated by this service in the country, in anticipation of providing users of our pharmacies with alternative means of payment when buying medicines,” said Eusébio Macete, general director of FARMAC.

Farmácias de Moçambique, Sociedade Anónima (FARMAC S.A) is a 100% Mozambican company, dedicated to the retail trade of medicines, vaccines and other products authorized to be sold in pharmacies.
