According to “O País”, at the time of the facts, Max Tonela said: “We project that, at least in October, eventually in November, we may have a reduction in the prices of liquid fuels in Mozambique”.
In this context, the gas stations stopped the enthusiasm that may have been created, by saying that there are no conditions for prices to go down. In fact, they recalled that they are selling fuels at a price below the acceptable.
The economist Tomaz Salomão also came out calling for common sense between the parties. It is not known whether common sense will have prevailed; what is certain is that the latest pronouncement came from Carla Louveira, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance.
“This price fixing follows the existing regulation, which is decree 89. Therefore, it is in this context that we are going to analyze the appreciation of the evolution of international fuel prices and see what margins exist for price changes at the national level,” said the vice-minister.
The government’s debt with the gasoline companies is one of the elements to be considered for such price maintenance.
