MEF announces creation of 413,000 new jobs by 2024

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, announced that 413,000 new jobs are expected to be created under the 2024 Economic and Social Plan and State Budget (PESOE), the proposal for which was presented this Thursday (06) by the government to Parliament. According to Tonela, the creation of these jobs is part of the Priority II approach, aimed at Economic Growth, Productivity and Job Creation, in which the government intends to allocate 34.6% of total expenditure, valued at 542.7 billion Meticais.

In the context of Priority II, the Minister explained that the government plans to implement various actions, namely completing the construction of 10 health units, eight of which are district hospitals and two general hospitals, under the presidential initiative “one district, one hospital”. The Executive is also going to build 122 new schools, including 100 for pre-school education and 22 secondary schools, rehabilitate 1,500 resilient classrooms, as well as expand the network of Technical Vocational Training establishments, establishing three new institutions.

In the context of Priority II, the Minister explained that the government plans to implement various actions, including completing the construction of 10 health facilities, eight of which will be district hospitals and two general hospitals, as part of the presidential initiative “one district, one hospital”. The Executive is also going to build 122 new schools, including 100 for pre-school education and 22 secondary schools, rehabilitate 1,500 resilient classrooms, as well as expand the network of Technical Vocational Training establishments, establishing three new institutions.

The PESOE proposal for 2024 has quantitative targets to mobilize total resources of 542.7 billion Meticais, of which 429.9 billion will come from Internal Resources, corresponding to 28% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and 112.8 billion Meticais from External Resources, equivalent to 7.3% of GDP. As for the collection of state revenue, the forecast is to raise around 383.5 billion Meticais, corresponding to 25% of GDP.

The PESOE 2024 forecasts a deficit of 159.2 billion Meticais, equivalent to 10.4% of GDP, which will be covered by external donations of 83.3 billion Meticais, corresponding to 5.4% of GDP; external credit of 29.5 billion Meticais, equivalent to 1.9% of GDP; and internal credit of 46.3 billion Meticais, corresponding to 3.0% of GDP.
