LAM announces regular flights to Dubai and Guangzhou as of July

Mozambique Airlines (LAM) plans to start regular flights to Dubai and Guangzhou in China by July this year. The information was revealed by the director general of the state-owned airline, Theunis Crous, during the presentation of the company’s first cargo plane, a Boeing 737-300F, at Maputo airport.

According to Crous, the company is following the defined and planned plan to stabilize its operations. He took over as general manager of LAM two weeks ago, but had already been involved in the company for eight months, as part of the restructuring led by South Africa’s Fly Modern Ark (FMA), appointed by the Mozambican government in April last year.

The departure of LAM’s previous director-general, João Carlos Pó Jorge, took place as part of the company’s restructuring measures, following allegations of a scheme to embezzle money from ticket stores.

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Amilton Alissone, highlighted the progress made by LAM in recent months, including increasing its fleet, opening new routes and reducing fares to some destinations. He emphasized that the company is still in the process of achieving the desired level of efficiency.

LAM currently operates regular passenger flights to the provincial capitals of Mozambique, as well as regional flights to African cities. Since December 2023, the company has also been operating flights to Lisbon, Portugal, three times a week.
