26 Mozambican students begin studies in France with Mozambique LNG scholarships

On Tuesday, July 23, the scholarship program of the Mozambique LNG Project, operated by TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, sent a group of 26 students to France to begin their studies in higher education. This is the fourth edition of the program, which has the collaboration of the French Embassy in Mozambique and is in line with government policies.

According to the Mozambican Information Agency (AIM), the program has already awarded a total of 94 scholarships over the last four years. The new fellows were selected through a rigorous process that assessed academic excellence, gender diversity, provincial origin and the background of the candidates.

“Of the 1643 applicants across the country, 26 young people were chosen, 12 of whom are women. These students will attend some of the most prestigious university institutions in France, in Bachelor Universitaire de Technologie and Master’s courses,” says a statement from the company.

Elsa Bernardoff, cooperation attaché at the French Embassy in Mozambique, highlighted her organization’s commitment to university cooperation and support for the exchange of scientific knowledge. “This mobility program is an extension of the Embassy’s activities and aims to strengthen the skills of young people who, on returning to Mozambique, will contribute to the country’s development,” she said.

Laila Chilemba, Vice President for Public Affairs and Communication at TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, expressed her satisfaction at the continuity of the program and the milestone of 100 scholarships awarded, which will be reached with the sending of six more students in the coming months. “This achievement reflects TotalEnergies’ commitment to investing in education and training future Mozambican leaders,” he said.

Ana Mapfala, from Sofala and admitted to the bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Process Engineering, highlighted the importance of practice combined with theoretical knowledge in her course. Humberto Cintura, from Nampula, admitted to the master’s degree in Automotive Engineering for Sustainable Mobility, expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to deepen his knowledge and aspire to a career in the automotive industry.

According to the official press release, this year’s scholarship program covers seven provinces, and the message to future candidates is clear: “whatever your geographical or social origin, try your luck.”
