Cabo Delgado: Government seeks mechanisms for the return of gas exploration in the rovuma basin

Cabo Delgado: Governo procura mecanismos para regresso da exploração do gás na bacia do rovuma

The government is looking for mechanisms to soon resume liquefied natural gas exploration activities in Area 1 of the Rovuma Basin, in Cabo Delgado, which were paralyzed due to terrorism, Rádio Moçambique (RM) reported on Wednesday, January 10.
In this regard, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, held separate meetings this Tuesday with the secretary of the Indian Ministry of Oil and Gas and representatives of Indian companies with investments in Area 1 of the Rovuma Basin in Cabo Delgado.
At the meeting with the Mozambican head of state, the Indian investors reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to invest in the country’s gas, as well as the return of activities in that exploration area.
The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, explained that India has a 30% share of the total investments in Rovuma gas exploration, and has so far invested around 13 billion dollars.
He assured that the French concessionaire TotalEnergies and the Indian companies are coordinating for the rapid return of activities in Area 1 of the Rovuma Basin
This Wednesday, the President of the Republic is scheduled to speak at the opening of the Gujarat Global Summit, hold talks with his Czech counterpart, visit the Mahatma Gandi Museum and meet with the Mozambican community living in Gujarat, India.
