The Montepuez Ruby Mining company is planning to invest one hundred million dollars to build a second ruby processing plant at the Namanhumbir administrative post, in the southern region of Cabo Delgado, in 2025, as announced by the Carta de Moçambique news portal.
According to Montepuez Ruby Mining’s Public Relations Director, Milcon Chichume, the new infrastructure will increase ruby processing capacity from 200 tons per hour to 600 tons per hour, which will contribute to an increase in employment and revenue for the state.
“This is the Gemfilds group’s biggest investment in the world. As a company, we want to ensure that by 2025 we will be considered the mine with the most responsible mineral resources in the world,” said Milcon Chichume.
In addition, the company is seeking to become one of the most responsible in the world, and to this end is joining an international verification system called IRMA, which allows other players to control various aspects, such as the environment, and relations with communities and the government, among others.
