Companhia Moçambicana de Gasoduto (CMG), and the South African Gas Development Company (iGAS), announced the conclusion of the acquisition of 30% of Sasol’s participation in ROMPCO (Companhia de Investimento de Gasoduto (Pty) Ltd of the Republic of Mozambique), within the scope of the exercise of their preference rights.
This transaction means that CMG and iGAS will now be the majority shareholders in ROMPCO, as their stakes will increase from the previous 25% to 40% respectively, with Sasol holding a minority stake of 20%.
Prior to this transaction ROMPCO, which owns the 865-kilometer gas pipeline from Mozambique to South Africa, was a company consisting of Sasol South Africa (50%), CMG (25%) and iGAS (25%).
Reacting to the successful completion of this transaction, the Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA), of ENH, Estevão Pale, said that the act symbolizes the Government’s commitment to the long-term commercialization of natural gas between South Africa and Mozambique, and the role that natural gas plays in the energy transition in the country and in the region.
The Mozambican Gas Pipeline Company (CMG), is a subsidiary of the National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH), and the South African Gas Development Company (iGAS), is a company linked to the Central Energy Fund (CEF).
