EDM records damage of 10 million meticais in Inhambane after storm

The state-owned company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) reports a loss of 10 million meticais, due to the damage caused by Tropical Storm “Filipo” as it passed through Inhambane province, the Mozambican Information Agency reported on Friday, March 15.

According to the agency, the storm knocked down 73 medium- and low-voltage network posts, covering an area of 3.5 kilometers, leaving around 113,000 of the company’s customers without power.

EDM’s director for Customer Service in Inhambane, Fenias Dimande, said that investment was being made to repair the damage caused by Storm Filipo. “Some work is continuing in Morrumbene. Of course, there is still some work on the low-voltage network, but the work is still going on in the Ninganinga area, where around 1,500 customers are still without power.”

Tropical Storm Filipo entered national territory on Tuesday (12) from the district of Inhassoro, Inhambane province, with winds between 90 and 130 kilometers per hour and heavy rain.
