Engie Energy supplies solar energy to more than 220,000 families in Mozambique

More than 220,000 families in Mozambique are already connected to solar energy generated through a project developed by the French company Engie Energy Access. The investment, which exceeds 1.2 billion meticais (19.9 million dollars), was announced this Thursday, July 18, by the company.

According to the Lusa news agency, which quotes a statement from the company, the number of households covered by Engie Energy Access’ operation is more than 1.2 million people, in ten of the country’s 11 provinces. “The firm began operating in 2019 and is the only renewable energy operator in the country offering off-grid, end-to-end energy solutions, including solar home systems and mini-grids,” the company said.

To consolidate its presence in the national territory, Engie Energy Access will launch a “large domestic solar system on Friday (19) in Maputo, with greater capacity to power 32-inch TVs and up to eight light bulbs, providing renewable energy to customers”. Gillian-Alexandre Huart, CEO of Engie Energy Access, said that the company’s activity in Mozambique is at a turning point. He pointed out that the government’s recent legislative revisions and upcoming tax incentives will be key to attracting more investment to the sector and accelerating energy access for all households by 2030.

The Mozambican government has pointed to renewable energies as a crucial factor in achieving the goal of universal access to energy by 2030, promoting solutions outside the national grid.
