ExxonMobil is mobilizing funding for Area 4 project

ExxonMobil está a mobilizar financiamento para Projecto da área 4

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, revealed that ExxonMobil is mobilizing resources and funding to resume its project in Cabo Delgado province.

During the balance of his working visit to the United States of America (USA), as part of the International Conference on the Management of the Miombo Forest, Nyusi said that ExxonMobil considered, last July, that investment in Mozambique’s natural gas is on track for the Final Investment Decision in 2025.

“They (ExxonMobil) were also more interested in the security situation, but it wasn’t too difficult to explain to them,” Filipe Nyusi told journalists who accompanied him on his trip to the US.

The head of state stressed that “ExxonMobil is keen to resume. The Executive is in almost constant talks with the multinational and they are currently in the process of mobilizing resources and funding.”

Nyusi revealed that at the Conference on the Miombo Forest, a Letter of Intent was produced which presents some issues, such as the principle of permanent funding and the management of existing areas of the Miombo Forest. “This document calls on the signatory countries of the Maputo Declaration and all the key players to protect the existing areas and make room for the creation of new ones,” he said.
The Charter stresses the importance of financing projects in the protected areas, focusing particularly on small and medium-sized enterprises oriented towards biodiversity businesses.
