Japan has formalized a significant financial commitment to support Mozambique on several fronts, with the signing of three donation agreements worth a total of 55.1 million dollars.
According to Ambassador Keiji, the resources made available will be directed towards projects aimed at strengthening security and boosting the country’s energy development. One of the main focuses will be the supply of vehicles to the Mozambican police force, especially to combat terrorism in Cabo Delgado province. This project, valued at 2.51 million dollars, aims to strengthen the authorities’ response capacity in the region, which is home to important developments, such as the liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project, in which Japanese companies are also investing.
In addition, a significant portion of the investment, worth 45.91 million dollars, will go towards the construction of the Nacala Power Station. This infrastructure will play a fundamental role in reducing the energy deficit between supply and demand in the country, thus contributing to its economic and social development.
Finally, the third agreement, worth 6.68 million dollars, will provide support to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to strengthen the capacities of the Mozambican authorities in preventing and investigating crimes of terrorism, both on land and at sea.
These investments demonstrate Japan’s continued commitment to supporting Mozambique in key areas for its development, and are expected to have a significant impact on the country’s security, infrastructure and institutional capacity.
