LAM blames EuroAtlantic for Lisbon flight problems

Mozambique Airlines (LAM) has blamed EuroAtlantic for the recent problems in operating flights between Maputo and Lisbon. In a statement sent to the Lusa news agency on Monday, January 15, the Mozambican airline claims that EuroAtlantic failed to pay the rent for the aircraft, leading to the cancellation of the flight last Saturday.

According to LAM, moments before passengers boarded in Lisbon, the company was informed that EuroAtlantic had not paid the owner of the aircraft used, resulting in the order not to use it. In response to this situation, LAM said it had made every effort to carry out the flight, which ended up taking place on Sunday, January 14, using an aircraft from another operator.

EuroAtlantic, LAM’s partner in resuming the route between Maputo and Lisbon after a 12-year hiatus, has yet to comment on the matter, despite attempts to contact Lusa. Faced with this situation, the Mozambican state carrier has provided accommodation for the passengers affected and granted refunds to those who chose not to continue on the flight.

The Maputo-Lisbon route, resumed by LAM on December 12, is operated by a Boeing 777 with 302 seats, in partnership with EuroAtlantic. This route is part of LAM’s revitalization plan, after the management of the company was taken over by South Africa’s Fly Modern Ark (FMA) in April last year for a restructuring process.

LAM’s return to flights to Lisbon is an important step for the company, but recent setbacks highlight the challenges faced in the process of revitalizing and expanding operations. The company remains committed to offering quality services and regaining its position in the international air market.
