The newly appointed director general of Mozambique Airlines (LAM), Theunis Crous, announced his intention to implement a comprehensive strategic plan by 2030, aimed at making the company profitable and expanding its routes. The plan includes an asset review, financial restructuring and strategic partnerships with aircraft manufacturers and leasing companies. Among the objectives highlighted by Crous are the renewal and standardization of the fleet, consolidation of the new Maputo-Lisbon and Maputo-Cape Town routes, as well as the expansion of domestic, regional and intercontinental routes.
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, commented on the departure of the former director-general, João Carlos Pó Jorge, as part of the company’s revitalization measures. He stressed that changes in management were necessary to ensure a new dynamism.
For its part, Fly Modern Ark revealed that it had identified a scheme to embezzle money from ticket offices through automatic payment terminals not belonging to the company. The director of the restructuring project, Sérgio Matos, mentioned collaboration with LAM’s internal security to investigate and resolve the situation.
The renovation of LAM seeks to transform it into a model institution that all Mozambicans can be proud of. The government reiterates its commitment to stabilizing the company before deciding on possible privatizations.
