The government of Manica province, in the center of the country, is in dialogue with various partners to finance technical assistance for around 300 farmers, with the aim of increasing vegetable production in the district of Sussundenga, according to the Mozambican Information Agency (AIM).
Ernesto Lopes, provincial director of Agriculture and Fisheries, explained: “We are in an active phase of dialog with various partners to secure the necessary financial resources. We intend not only to increase the cultivated area, but also to improve the agricultural technique of our farmers.” The project will start on an area of 200 hectares, benefiting from the existence of irrigation infrastructures capable of irrigating up to 577 hectares.
“We want to create a sustainable system that benefits producers and creates a robust market for local and regional consumers,” said the director. The plan also includes strategies to strengthen the local agricultural value chain, contributing to greater economic stability for farmers.
The concession of the Tsetsera agricultural village is planned, an investment of around one million dollars, as part of a broader initiative to transform Manica province into one of the country’s main wheat and vegetable production hubs. “We envision a future where Manica is an example of agricultural productivity and innovation in Mozambique,” concluded Ernesto Lopes.
