On Tuesday (27), during FACIM 2024, Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM) signed an agreement with the University of Lúrio (UniLúrio) to finance environmental protection and biodiversity recovery projects in Cabo Delgado over the next seven years. The commitment was signed between Samora Machel Jr., chairman of the Board of Directors of MRM, and Leda Hugo, rector of UniLúrio.
The projects financed by MRM will involve the active participation of UniLúrio students, who will work directly with local communities to preserve the environment and restore the region’s biodiversity. Although the amounts involved in the agreement have not been disclosed, the partnership aims to strengthen environmental conservation efforts and foster sustainable development in Cabo Delgado.
“The signing of this agreement reinforces MRM’s commitment to environmental sustainability and to supporting initiatives that promote community development in Cabo Delgado,” said Samora Machel Jr. during the ceremony. The partnership represents an important milestone in the collaboration between the extractive industry and the academic sector, joining forces to mitigate environmental impacts and contribute to the recovery of local ecosystems.
This year, FACIM attracted 2,300 national and 650 foreign exhibitors from 25 countries, spread over more than ten pavilions and free spaces. The event brings together representatives from all economic sectors, including associations, public and private companies, acting as an essential platform for exchange and cooperation.
In addition to the exhibitions, FACIM 2024 includes seminars, promotion sessions and contact exchanges, creating an environment conducive to networking and strengthening strategic partnerships.
