Mozambican startups win competition in Macau with social and sustainable impact project

Startups moçambicanas vencem competição em Macau com projecto de impacto social e sustentável

Mozambican startup Maktub has received international recognition by winning an award in a startup competition in Macau, China. The company’s project focuses on the menstrual health of rural working women in Mozambique, using the reuse of wasted agricultural products.

Maktub, founded by Neide Ussiana and Sidney Mouga, primarily aims to address social challenges through the sustainable valorization of the agricultural crop value chain. The company seeks to promote the efficient and sustainable use of waste, aimed not only at environmental impact, but also at improving the menstrual health conditions of millions of women in rural Mozambique.

Maktub’s participation in the 929 Challenge, an event co-organized by Forum Macau with universities and other entities, highlights the importance of the project in the context of cooperation between China and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP). The competition aims to develop business ideas that promote this link between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Maktub’s international recognition in Macau highlights not only the innovation and entrepreneurial vision of the founders, but also the relevance of the project to the Mozambican community and the potential for positive impact in social, economic and environmental terms.
