Sasol strengthens local business sector with development programme for Mega-projects

Sasol, a company with almost two decades of presence in Mozambique, is stepping up its contribution to the country’s socio-economic development through a renewed commitment to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The company, which plays a vital role in Mozambican megaprojects, especially in the province of Inhambane, launched the Local Content Plan in partnership with the Mozambican government.
Sasol’s Local Content Plan aims to promote the development of MSMEs by stimulating the local private sector to supply essential goods and services for ongoing megaprojects. This strategic initiative is supported by Sasol in collaboration with the Mozambican government.

Hassan Dassat, Director of Local Content at Sasol, highlighted the importance of the Development Programme for Local Companies, focused especially on Inhambane. “A crucial component of this plan is the strategic use of contracting and procurement procedures to boost Local Content opportunities. With a view to increasing the participation of local MSMEs in the value chain of the oil and gas industry, so that they increase their capacity and become operationally independent and sustainable,” explained Dassat.
As well as transferring specialised technology, Sasol recognises the importance of investing in people. He emphasised that in order to guarantee local economic development, it is essential to empower communities through skills development.
“So far, the programme has benefited 138 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, most of them located in the province of Inhambane. The goal is to train 200 MSMEs by the end of 2024, making them competitive and able to supply goods and services to the country’s growing sectors, including the extractive sector value chain,” said Hassan Dassat.
Sasol is thus reinforcing its commitment not only to the country’s economic development, but also to promoting a sustainable and inclusive approach to megaprojects in Mozambique.
