Tile Exports Could Generate Significant Revenues for Mozambique

Mozambique intends to position itself in the export of tiles as a way of increasing revenue. The news was given by the Mozambican Minister of Industry and Trade, Silvino Moreno, after a working visit to Safira Mozambique Cerâmica, a new industry located in the district of Moamba, Maputo province, as reported by Semanário Económico on Monday (20).
The company, which is in the initial stages of operation, is a strategic component for boosting the development of the tile production chain in Mozambique. Minister Silvino Moreno highlighted the importance of this investment in the context of the Mozambique National Industrialization Programme (PRONAI), stressing its potential contribution to boosting the economy and positioning the country among the largest exporters of this product.

“Safira Mozambique Cerâmica is an outstanding investment, bringing with it a wealth of experience and a consolidated presence in the market. The existence of this factory on Mozambican soil will not only improve the balance of payments, but also reduce imports. Projects of this size have a considerable impact, especially given the large number of constructions underway in the country,” explained the minister during his visit.
Construction of the factory began this year, representing a significant investment of 100 million dollars. Owned by the Chinese group Wang-Kand, Safira Mozambique Cerâmica already employs 800 local workers, with plans to increase this number to over a thousand in the coming period.
The initiative is notable not only for the magnitude of the investment, but also for its potential positive impact on the Mozambican economy. The expectation is that by consolidating its position as one of the main tile exporters, Mozambique will be able to diversify its sources of income, strengthen its trade balance and provide additional employment opportunities for the population.

This announcement comes at a crucial time, highlighting the Mozambican government’s commitment to promoting industrial development and positioning the country as a major player in the international trade of ceramic products. Safira Mozambique Cerâmica, with its significant injection of capital and local employability, emerges as a key player in this strategic move, signaling a promising future for the tile sector in Mozambique.
