Turkish ambassador calls for review of Mozambique’s visa exemption

The Turkish ambassador to Mozambique, Ovni Eksoi, during the Mozambique – Turkey Business Forum, expressed concern about the Mozambican government’s decision to extend visa-free travel to 19 countries, excluding Turkey.

Eksoi pointed out that Turkey plays a significant role as a foreign importer and promoter of Mozambican products, and suggested thinking about including Turkey on this list in order to boost trade relations.

While more than 100 Mozambican companies took part in the business meetings, the ambassador stressed the importance of the bilateral trade relationship, highlighting a trade volume of approximately 144 million dollars in 2022, with a forecast of more than 200 million in 2023.

In the light of the forum, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey announced the availability of 285 million dollars for investments in the cement, construction and energy sectors. Eksoi stressed the crucial need for visa-free travel for Turkish investors, pointing to progress in tax and investment protection agreements.

The event aims not only to strengthen trade relations, but also to boost investment between Mozambique and Turkey, with the support of organizations such as the Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports (APIEX), the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), and other business associations in the country.

The Turkish delegation, made up of representatives from the Ministry of Trade and the Turkish Exporters Association, presented 13 companies from various sectors.
