Vodacom launches free Internet access in Maputo

In a significant move to increase digital inclusion, Vodacom Mozambique, in collaboration with the National Communications Institute of Mozambique (INCM) and the Universal Access Service Fund (FSAU), has started a project offering free 5G-speed Wi-Fi internet access in several key locations in Maputo. This initiative aims to empower citizens with digital opportunities for education, business and community involvement.

The high-speed Internet service is available at Maputo Airport, Zona Verde Secondary School, Tunduro Garden, Ronil Store, Fish Market, Youth Square (Magoanine) and Praça dos Engraxadores, offering up to two hours of free access per day. In a significant move to increase digital inclusion, Vodacom Mozambique, in collaboration with the National Institute of Communications of Mozambique (Instituto Nacional das Comunicações de Moçambique), is launching a project to enable users to connect to the Internet in two sessions.

The project allows users to connect to the Internet in two one-hour sessions per day, making the most of the fast and efficient 5G network. It aims to cover high-traffic community areas to ensure widespread benefits, from students to local business owners. The CEO of Vodacom Mozambique, Simon Karikari, highlighted the aim of the project: “We are excited to launch this initiative, a step towards our commitment to reduce the digital divide in Mozambique. Providing free 5G Internet access is not just about connecting, but empowering individuals to explore the possibilities of the digital world for their advancement and economic development.”

This initiative represents a major advance towards digital inclusion in Mozambique, promising to increase educational, economic and social opportunities for the citizens of Maputo.
