Vodacom Ranked Best Employer in Africa for Second Consecutive Year

The Vodacom Group has been named by the Top Employers Institute as Africa’s Best Employer for the second year running. This prestigious certification and first place position covers Vodacom Group, Vodacom South Africa, Vodacom Mozambique, Vodacom Tanzania and Safaricom Kenya.
The Top Employers Institute awards this prize to companies based on their performance in key areas of Human Resources, such as People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Well-Being.
“We are extremely proud to once again be recognized as the Best Employer in Mozambique. This award reflects our commitment to providing a work environment where employees feel supported, valued and motivated to give their best. By continuously investing in inclusive policies and practices, we demonstrate our purpose of connecting Mozambique and all of Africa to a better future,” said Simon Karikari, CEO of Vodacom Mozambique.

In 2024, Vodacom strengthened its Value Proposition with employee offers that reinforce its commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment. With an emphasis on Compassion, Acceptance, Respect and Empathy (C.A.R.E.), the company’s wellness initiatives include support for all life stages, such as menopause, and a more comprehensive family leave policy. “This distinction reaffirms the commitment we have to taking care of our employees and creating conditions for their development. We are proud to lead a committed team that not only contributes to the success of our organization, but also to the empowerment of our communities. Initiatives like the Digital Skills Hub are an extension of this purpose, offering young Mozambicans and Africans in general the opportunity to acquire essential digital skills for the future,” added Katia Meggy, Human Resources Director at Vodacom Mozambique.

Developed in collaboration with other technology organizations, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, the Vodacom Digital Skills Hub aims to increase digital literacy in Africa by bridging the digital skills gap in eight African countries, South Africa, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Lesotho, Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya, respectively.

The Vodacom Digital Skills Hub is designed to empower the next generation to consider a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and includes hands-on, engaging digital skills training for young people on the continent. AWS Educate is one of the first programs to be offered through the Digital Skills Hub and an additional program to Vodacom’s various existing online learning platforms. This program offers young people a vast library of online training at their own pace, covering a range of topics from Cloud fundamentals to Artificial Intelligence.
“As we start this new year, we encourage young Mozambicans, whether they are students, budding entrepreneurs or those looking for new opportunities, to explore the Digital Skills Hub. As a Best Employer, we have a responsibility to empower not only our employees, but the current and future generations to build a more inclusive digital future,” concluded Katia Meggy.
