World Bank to finance construction of water storage dam inNampula

Banco Mundial financiará a construção de barragem para armazenamento de água em Nampula

The head of the Water Resources Management Department of the Northern Regional Water Administration, João Sitoe, has announced that the World Bank will finance the construction of a new water storage dam in Nampula province.

Although the exact amount of funding has not been disclosed, Sitoe explained that the new infrastructure will be installed in the Rapale district. Environmental studies are currently underway to make the project viable.

“The new dam is being planned to meet demand and guarantee a water supply for more than one million families, contributing to an improved quality of life,” said Sitoe.

He also mentioned that some parts of the city are facing water shortages and, due to this situation, “the company responsible has prioritized supplying water to breweries and soft drinks factories, the Nampula Central Hospital and prisons”. The construction of this dam is seen as a crucial measure to mitigate the water shortage and guarantee an adequate supply for the population of Nampula.
