Yesterday (21), at its 40th Ordinary Session, the Council of Ministers approved the resolution approving the Just Energy Transition Strategy (ETE), announced Carlos Zacarias, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, during the Mozambique – EU Business Forum, taking place in Maputo from November 22 to 23.
For his part, Carlos Zacarias believes that Mozambique, with its potential in renewable energy resources, is positioning itself as a crucial source of energy, capable of helping to meet national, regional and global energy needs, while at the same time preserving energy security and decarbonization.
The government’s medium and long-term vision in the energy sector has led it to approve a regulatory framework that has made it easier to attract investment and develop structuring projects.
The national electrification strategy approved in 2018, the integrated electricity infrastructure master plan 2018-2043, the recently approved electricity law for 2022, the energy efficiency strategy and the robust regulatory framework for off-grid energy access completed in 2022, have allowed us to take galloping steps towards universal energy access in 2030 and the development of national industry, with the vision of powering the continent.
The energy transition strategy, which was approved yesterday at the Council of Ministers session, will allow the government to complement the country’s existing policy matrix based on a just energy transition with three main objectives (i) to generate inclusive socio-economic growth (ii) to become the regional energy hub and (iii) to contribute to the global energy transition.
It should be noted that this action will allow for greater openness and investment opportunities in the development of green investment corridors, grid expansion and domestic solutions through projects to be implemented.
