Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) has announced a remarkable achievement, surpassing its annual production target for 2023 by 12%, reaching 15.7 million MWh by the end of November. This represents a 1.9% increase on the volume produced in 2022.
The success is attributed to ongoing programs to strengthen the operation and maintenance of energy generation and transport equipment. In a statement, the company highlights the positive impact of this performance, resulting in revenues that registered a notable increase of 29% compared to the same period in 2022. This achievement will contribute significantly to consolidating HCB’s economic and financial strength.
As of last November, HCB had channeled a significant amount of around 13.06 billion meticais into the national economy and the Mozambican state. This amount includes taxes, concession fees and dividends. Tomás Matola, Chairman of HCB’s Board of Directors, points out that this financial contribution has taken place in a context in which the company has implemented a new organic structure and human resources, with the aim of preparing itself for the challenges of the national and regional energy sector.
Financially healthy, the hydroelectric plant plans to continue investing in the expansion and diversification of the business. Future projects include the reactivation of the North Plant, with an estimated capacity of 1,245 MW, and the implementation of a photovoltaic plant with up to 400 MW. HCB is positioning itself as a key player on the energy scene, ready to face up to the challenges and contribute to sustainable development.
