CTA enriches proposal for Mozambican “Made in Africa” standard and seeks input from private sector

The Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA) is improving the proposal for the Mozambican “Made in Africa” (MiA) standard by gathering contributions on its qualifying criteria and implementation guidelines. This initiative aims to facilitate industrialization in Africa, promote profitable and sustainable value chains, foster manufacturing, research and industrial innovation, increase the visibility and protection of intellectual property rights, and create an enabling environment for investment in priority sectors at regional and continental level.

According to a statement from the CTA, released by the Mozambican Information Agency (AIM) on Tuesday, January 16, the CTA has received a request from the National Institute for Standardization and Quality (INNOQ) for input from the private sector to enrich the criteria and guidelines for implementing the MiA standard. The deadline for submitting contributions is January 25.

In addition to the MiA standard, the CTA is also seeking feedback on the regulation of the assessment and control of exposures to physical, chemical and biological agents in the workplace. This effort aims to enrich the regulatory framework proposed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MITSS) for the assessment and control of occupational exposures. Contributions to this initiative must be submitted by January 20, 2024.

In addition, the CTA is analysing the Ministry of Industry and Commerce’s proposal for the regulation of markets and fairs, aimed at harmonizing different municipal regulations across the country.

This proposal aims to address management, physical-environmental and infrastructural challenges associated with markets and fairs, requiring regulation for prudent and efficient management. Contributions to this proposal must be submitted by Wednesday, January 17th.

CTA encourages the private sector to actively participate in these initiatives, providing valuable input that will contribute to the development of robust standards and regulations, thus benefiting Mozambique’s economic growth and development.
