Engie Energy Access: “Mozambique is a viable market for solar home systems”

Engie Energy Access, a global benchmark in low carbon energy and services, announced on Thursday, November 16, in Maputo, that Mozambique is a viable market for the development of the business linked to the installation of solar home systems, stressing that since the beginning of its operations in the country, it has obtained positive results.

Speaking at the ceremony to celebrate reaching 200,000 customers, the Engie Energy Access representative in Mozambique, Alexandra Links, said: “We are committed to the development of communities. Since our arrival, we have already had a positive impact on people’s lives, especially those living in remote areas”.

“The company is ready to work with the government to achieve the goal of electrifying the country by 2030. We provide affordable services and products and we have a large team of employees to work together to drive growth,” he added.

For his part, the deputy national director of Energy, Ortígio Nhanombe, advocated greater participation by the private sector in the production of renewable energy, pointing out that a favorable regulatory framework already exists.

“As a government, we want to see an increasingly active private sector in the investment, operation and maintenance of photovoltaic mini-grids. The massification of access to electricity in the country also involves the entry of private investment and operators, given the size of the country and the large population,” he explained.

According to him, it is important to invest in residential solar systems as one of the solutions for providing energy to families.

Engie Energy Acess has been operating in Mozambique for four years and is currently the only energy operator in the country offering off-grid energy solutions from end to end, including solar home systems and mini-grids. It is present in ten provinces – Maputo city and province, Gaza, Inhambane, Manica, Sofala, Tete, Zambézia, Nampula and Niassa – and active in nine sub-Saharan African countries. It recently won the AFSIA 2022 award as Solar Home System Company of the Year for its MySol brand.
