Montepuez Ruby Mining invests in entrepreneurship with “Opyithikula Ocumi” project in Namanhumbir

Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM) has announced a significant investment in entrepreneurship projects in the Namanhumbir region, in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique. The project, entitled “Opyithikula Ocumi” (Transforming Lives, in Emakhuwa, the local language), aims to boost several areas, including agriculture, animal husbandry, education, health, culture and commerce.

As part of its ongoing commitment to local socio-economic development, MRM will allocate 20,000 dollars (approximately 1.2 million meticais) to fund entrepreneurial projects in the community. The amount will be directed towards viable initiatives, selected by an evaluation committee made up of community members and a multi-sector team from MRM.

The company revealed that ten projects with proven viability will be chosen, each receiving funding of 100,000 meticais. In addition to the funding, the selected entrepreneurs will have guidance and mentoring provided by MRM’s multi-sector team, guaranteeing the success and sustainability of their projects.

Those interested in participating in this funding program are encouraged to submit their proposals through the mining company’s community office. The deadline for submitting applications closes on Friday, December 22.

This initiative represents yet another effort by Montepuez Ruby Mining to support the development of the Montepuez district. In 2018, the company opened the Namanhumbir Vocational Training Center, operated by the Alberto Cassimo Vocational Training and Labor Studies Institute (IFPELAC). The center has already trained 560 young people in areas such as electricity, plumbing, carpentry, construction and painting. Recently, courses in locksmithing and machine operation have been introduced to further expand learning and employment opportunities in the region.
