Portugal and Mozambique strengthen trade relations at business forum

The Presidents of Portugal and Mozambique will take part in the Business Forum between the two countries in Lisbon on Wednesday (24), which will bring around 80 Mozambican businesspeople to Porto.

The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) has prepared the business mission “with the aim of generating new opportunities for partnerships, brand representation in sectors such as oil and gas, agro-industry, transport and logistics, finance and services, renewable energies and hotels and tourism”, which will take place from April 22 to 24, reads the program for the delegation’s visit.

The initiative culminates with the Mozambique-Portugal Business Forum, to be held at the Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, on the afternoon of the 24th, and will be attended by the Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, and his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the opening session.

In the days leading up to the forum, Mozambican businesspeople will have the opportunity to visit companies and meet with Portuguese businesspeople in the city of Porto, on Monday (22), and with a visit to the Port of Sines, on Tuesday (23).

The President of Mozambique will also take part in a ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of April 25 in Lisbon.

The organization explains that during the business mission, the sessions will take place in the form of sectoral round tables, with the participation of members of the Mozambican and Portuguese governments.
Speaking to Lusa last week ahead of the visit, the vice-president of the CTA said that the aim is to “explore the opportunities offered to Portuguese companies to internationalize, as a way of increasing and diversifying Portuguese investment in Mozambique”.
Maria Assunção Abdula said that “the mission will show that Mozambique is at a different stage and is still here, with open doors”. “It is planned to sign two agreements between the Mozambique Stock Exchange and the Portuguese Stock Exchange, and between the CTA and the CPLP Business Confederation and the Portuguese Industrial Association (AIP), and a joint Working Committee will also be proposed between the government and the private sector of the two countries, coordinated by the Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Exports (APIEX), to implement all the business intentions that will be revealed during the mission,” she added.

Mobilizing new Portuguese investments for Mozambique, learning about the financial solutions available in the Portuguese market for doing business and establishing partnerships, learning about technologies in the oil and gas, renewable energy, agro-industry, transport and logistics industries are among the objectives, as well as representing brands and promoting trade between the two countries.
