The President of the Tax Authority (AT), Amélia Muendane, led the launch of the Whistleblower Management System in Maputo on Wednesday (14/02), and took the opportunity to give a comprehensive assessment of the main activities carried out by the institution over the years.
In her speech, Muendane highlighted the challenges faced since she took over as head of AT in 2015, with the aim of contributing to Mozambique’s economic independence through effective tax collection. She stressed the importance of defining working tools that would allow the institution’s mission, vision and values to be shared by everyone, with a view to raising awareness among employees of the importance of public service and ensuring that taxpayers pay their taxes to the state.
To achieve these objectives, AT established three pillars: revenue consolidation, tax base expansion and institutional integrity. With regard to revenue consolidation, Muendane shared that, between 2015 and 2023, gross collection evolved from 158,509.09 million meticais to 338,304.16 million meticais, representing a nominal growth of 113.43%.
These figures reflect AT’s efforts to increase tax collection, expand the tax base and promote institutional integrity. The launch of the Whistleblower Management System is another important step by AT to strengthen its enforcement capacity and combat tax evasion, thus ensuring a fair contribution from everyone to the state coffers.
