Temane Thermal Power Station to increase electricity exports to neighboring countries

Central térmica de Temane aumentará exportação de energia eléctrica para países vizinhos

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, recently announced that the Temane Thermal Power Plant (CTT) will increase its electricity exports to neighboring countries, including Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa. This measure aims to contribute to Mozambique’s gains in the energy sector.

According to the minister, several memorandums of understanding have been signed with these countries, which puts Mozambique in a prominent position in the energy sector. “CTT is a strategic tool for the country’s development. We are planning to increase its export capacity,” said Zacarias.

Scheduled to open this year, the infrastructure will have a production capacity of 450 MW, providing low-cost and reliable electricity for Electricidade de Moçambique. The project will use natural gas from the Pande and Temane fields, operated by Sasol and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH).

Valued at 652.3 million dollars, CTT will operate with combined cycle technology and will benefit an additional 1.5 million families with electricity. This initiative demonstrates Mozambique’s commitment to expanding its energy capacities and contributing to regional energy stability and development.
