Total contribution from mega-projects in 2023 up 6.5% on the previous year

The mega-projects contributed 16.583 billion meticais to Mozambique’s economy in 2023, an increase of 6.5% compared to the previous year. This contribution is equivalent to 11.3% of the total recorded in the period.

In the same period, there were 7 requests for refunds of Personal Income Tax (IRS) and 6 for Corporate Income Tax (IRC), totaling 404.9 million meticais, but no payments were made.

With regard to Value Added Tax (VAT), 407 requests were registered, totaling 6.342,6 million meticais. However, the refunds made amounted to only 3.899 billion meticais, a decrease of 16.8% compared to the same period in 2022.

These figures show the relevance of mega-projects for the Mozambican economy, as well as pointing to challenges related to the tax refund process, highlighting the importance of efficient management for the country’s sustainable development.
