MIC and CTA prepare 10th council to monitor Mozambique’s business environment

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC) and the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA) are finalizing the details for the 10th Business Environment Monitoring Council (CMAN) in Mozambique. The CMAN, which will be headed by the Prime Minister and will take place on Wednesday (17), is the highest management and monitoring body of the Public-Private Dialogue (PPD).

The main objective of CMAN is to assess the level of implementation of the follow-up matrix to the 18th Annual Private Sector Conference(CASP) and to discuss pertinent issues related to the business environment in Mozambique. The CMAN will be attended by ministers of economic affairs, national directors, CTA sectoral offices and cooperation partners.

According to the CTA, the CMAN is an opportunity for the private sector to clarify certain concerns, such as the payment of late invoices to state suppliers, the reimbursement of Value Added Tax (VAT), the tax burden, cases related to kidnappings, and access to finance, among other topics.
In addition to the preparations for CMAN, the CTA also shared with the Minister of Industry and Trade, Silvino Moreno, the details of the Business Mission to Lisbon and Porto, to be held between April 22 and 24. More than 80 Mozambican businesspeople will take part in the mission, mostly from the agro-industry, energy, tourism, transportation and logistics, finance and construction sectors.
During the mission, sessions are planned in the form of sectoral and focused round tables, with emphasis on the areas of Oil and Gas, Agro-industry, Transport and Logistics, Financial Services and Construction. Also planned are visits to enterprises, exhibitions of products and services, and a Portugal-Mozambique business forum on the theme “Internationalization of Portuguese Companies in the PALOP countries – the case of Mozambique”.
The Business Mission has the support of the Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Exports (APIEX), the Industrial Association of Portugal (AIP), the Mozambique-Portugal Chamber of Commerce (CCMP), the CPLP Business Confederation and the Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal (AICEP).
