President of the Republic calls for more transparency in the marketing of minerals

During the inauguration of the Geology Laboratory of the National Mining Institute (INAMI) in Maputo, the President of the Republic emphasized the need for greater transparency in the marketing of minerals.
Nyusi pointed out that mining is one of the sources of revenue for Mozambican exports and that the sector has seen significant growth, representing 10.4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2022, compared to 9.8% in 2021 and just 1.8% in 2011.

The president also mentioned the importance of strict inspection and control of artisanal mining, pointing out that more than 229,000 small producers are active in the area, generating income for more than 800,000 people. The recently opened laboratory will bring the minerals produced in Mozambique up to international quality standards.

For his part, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, said that the construction of the Geology Laboratory had cost 190 million meticais (2.76 million euros), emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting transparency and the sustainable development of the mining sector in Mozambique.
