PR convida empresários dos Emirados Árabes Unidos a investirem no país

Estes encontros estão inseridos na primeira visita oficial que o Chefe do Estado realiza a este país, a convite do seu homólogo dos Emirados, Sheik Muhammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

Estas personalidades manifestaram satisfação com a abertura e o encorajamento que receberam do Presidente da República, apontando, principalmente, o compromisso do Governo de criar condições conducentes à flexibilização da cooperação económica, facto que sublinha a posição de Moçambique como um destino seguro para investimentos.

No espírito de cordialidade que dominou os encontros, os empresários manifestaram interesse em investir, na área de agricultura para a produção de soja, milho e arroz, para abastecer o mercado nacional e exportar os excedentes.

Mozambique and United Arab Emirates sign economic cooperation agreements

Filipe Nyusi’s four-day visit to the United Arab Emirates began on Sunday and comes at the invitation of his counterpart, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Tiago Castigo, Mozambique’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates told the media in Abu Dhabi.

As part of the visit, according to the source, the parties will at least sign an agreement for economic and technical cooperation, but there are two other memorandums of understanding still being drafted on defense cooperation and on the fight against terrorism.

“There are also contacts to establish a visa waiver agreement on diplomatic and service passports, and we want this agreement to be extended to normal passports as well. It is also our concern that there is a direct air connection between the two countries and the Minister of Transport and Communication, Mateus Magala, is here and will hold meetings in this scope”, explained the Ambassador of Mozambique in the United Arab Emirates.

Latest data released by CTA – Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique pointed the United Arab Emirates as the fifth among the main trading partners of Mozambique, with the volume of trade between the two countries reaching about US$550 million (559 million euros) in 2019.

Telecommunications sector lose 2.5% of turnover

Turnover in mobile telephony recorded a negative variation of about 2.5% compared to the previous year,” reads the new statistical bulletin dedicated to the transport and telecommunications sector.

In 2020, the year of greatest impact of the covid-19 pandemic, turnover had grown 3.1% to 33.9 billion meticais (540 million euros).

The biggest swings were recorded in the postpaid subscriber range: it had increased 130% in 2020 to about 672,000, and in 2021 it fell 85% to about 100,000, below the 2019 figure, INE said.

The data, provided by Mozambique’s National Telecommunications Institute (INCM), also indicates that the sector lost 28% of staff in service between 2020 and 2021, to total 2,761 workers.

In another chapter, the INE bulletin indicates that transport in Mozambique recovered in 2021 part of the passengers and cargo lost because of covid-19, but still fell short of pre-pandemic values.

“In 2021, freight transport recorded an increase of 19.8%, while passengers transported had a growth of 3.7%,” the document reads.

Still, the numbers place 2021 among the worst of the last six (from 2017 to here) only surpassed by the 2020 drop – and still no known data for this year.

On the other hand, “the average fares of the main services did not observe variations, remaining constant” in all types of transport.

Moçambique e Emirados Árabes Unidos assinam acordos de cooperação económica

A visita de quatro dias de Filipe Nyusi aos Emirados Árabes Unidos começou no domingo e surge a convite do seu homólogo, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, declarou à comunicação social em Abu Dhabi Tiago Castigo, embaixador de Moçambique nos Emirados Árabes Unidos.

No âmbito da visita, segundo a fonte, as partes vão pelo menos assinar um acordo para cooperação económica e técnica, mas há outros dois memorandos de entendimento ainda em elaboração sobre a cooperação no domínio da defesa e sobre o combate contra o terrorismo.

“Há também contactos para se estabelecer um acordo de supressão de vistos em passaportes diplomáticos e de serviço e queremos que este acordo também se alargue para passaportes normais. É preocupação nossa também que haja uma ligação aérea direta entre os dois países e o ministro dos Transportes e Comunicação, Mateus Magala, está aqui e vai manter encontros neste âmbito”, explicou o embaixador de Moçambique nos Emirados Árabes Unidos.

Dados mais recentes divulgados pela CTA – Confederação das Associações Económicas de Moçambique apontavam os Emirados Árabes Unidos como o quinto entre os principais parceiros comerciais de Moçambique, tendo o volume de comércio entre os dois países atingido cerca de 550 milhões de dólares (559 milhões de euros) em 2019.

Telefonias móveis perdem 2,5% do volume de negócios

O volume de negócios na telefonia móvel registou uma variação negativa de cerca de 2,5% em relação ao ano anterior”, lê-se no novo boletim estatístico dedicado ao sector dos transportes e telecomunicações.

Em 2020, ano de maior impacto da pandemia de covid-19, o volume de negócios tinha crescido 3,1% para 33,9 mil milhões de meticais (540 milhões de euros).

As maiores oscilações registraram-se na faixa dos subscritores pós-pagos: tinha aumentado 130% em 2020, para cerca de 672 mil, e em 2021 caiu 85% para cerca de 100 mil, abaixo do valor de 2019, refere o INE.

Os dados, fornecidos pelo Instituto Nacional de Telecomunicações de Moçambique (INCM), indicam ainda que o setor perdeu 28% do pessoal ao serviço entre 2020 e 2021, passando a totalizar 2.761 trabalhadores.

Noutro capítulo, o boletim do INE indica que transportes em Moçambique recuperaram em 2021 parte dos passageiros e carga perdida por causa da covid-19, mas ainda ficaram aquém dos valores pré-pandemia.

“Em 2021, o transporte de mercadorias registou um aumento de 19.8%, enquanto os passageiros transportados tiveram um crescimento de 3,7%”, lê-se no documento.

Ainda assim, os números colocam 2021 entre os piores dos últimos seis (de 2017 para cá) só superado pela quebra de 2020 – e ainda sem dados conhecidos para este ano.

Por outro lado, “as tarifas médias dos principais serviços não observaram variações, mantendo-se constantes” em todos os tipos de transporte.

S&P maintains Mozambique’s rating and warns that gas evolution is crucial

“Mozambique’s ability to meet its trade obligations depends significantly on the resumption and completion of a key liquefied natural gas project led by TotalEnergies,” reads the note accompanying the decision, announced to maintain the rating at CCC+, with a Stable Outlook.

In the report, S&P says that “the project has been delayed due to persistent security risks in the Cabo Delgado region, but without significant deterioration of the security situation, the project could restart in the second half of 2023.

The stable outlook for the rating – which thus remains in one of the lowest places on the rating scale, indicating vulnerability and risk for investors – takes into account the country’s current financial capacity and uncertainties regarding future revenues.

“The stable outlook balances our view on Mozambique’s financial capacity to meet its financial obligations over the next 12 months with uncertainties about when liquefied natural gas production will begin and the associated revenues become available to the government,” reads the detailed explanation of the rating action.

First LNG export will take place between October and November – INP

The information was given to Reuters by the National Petroleum Institute (INP), at a time when Europe is facing a gas supply crisis.

Citing Welligence Energy Analytics, Reuters reports that the BP.L LNG tanker from England has already arrived off northern Mozambique.

“Regarding LNG exports, it will be to European markets as BP is committed to bringing gas resources to Europe,” INP said in an emailed response to Reuters.

All of South Coral’s annual gas production – 3.4 million tons – has been contracted to BP for 20 years.

The shipment of Mozambican LNG will help ease gas shortages in Europe as winter approaches following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February and Russia’s subsequent decision to reduce supplies to major European Union economies.

Millennium bim announces 30 billion meticals to support the economy

The announcement was made during the first edition of the “Millennium bim Business Days”, which brought together about 200 businessmen at the Sena Hotel in the city of Beira, Sofala Province.

The event aimed at sharing experiences and finding solutions for the challenges that are imposed to the development of Small, Medium and Large Enterprises in that province, in an effort where the bank praises its commitment as a reference financial institution in supporting enterprises in Mozambique.

“We witnessed a very frank and open debate in which it was possible to identify the various challenges that are imposed on us, however, some solutions were also collected with much pragmatism, always aiming at the full realization and development of the potential of the region of Sofala province,” said the President of the Executive Committee of the Bank, José Reino da Costa.

Reino da Costa also said that “if we observe Mozambique’s financial statistical system, what we can see is that banks have become more prudent in recent years, and this aspect translates into less credit concession, since the risks are greater and banks, in order to protect the money of their clients, become more cautious. However, we as Millennium bim, as there are promising projects properly conceived, reiterate our commitment to continue to support the economic development of the country”.

S&P mantém rating de Moçambique e alerta que evolução do gás é crucial

“A capacidade de Moçambique cumprir as suas obrigações comerciais depende significativamente do recomeço e finalização de um projeto fundamental de gás natural liquefeito liderado pela TotalEnergies”, lê-se na nota que acompanha a decisão, anunciada ontem (21.10), de manter o ‘rating’ em CCC+, com Perspetiva de Evolução Estável.

No relatório, a S&P diz que “o projeto tem sido adiado devido aos persistentes riscos de segurança na região de Cabo Delgado, mas, sem uma significativa deterioração da situação de segurança, o projeto poderá recomeçar na segunda metade de 2023”.

A perspetiva de evolução estável para o ‘rating’ – que continua assim num dos lugares mais baixos da escala de ‘rating’, indicando que há vulnerabilidade e risco para os investidores -, tem em conta a atual capacidade financeira do país e as incertezas relativamente às receitas futuras.

“O ‘outlook’ estável equilibra a nossa visão sobre a capacidade financeira de Moçambique para cumprir as suas obrigações financeiras nos próximos 12 meses, com as incertezas sobre quando é a que a produção de gás natural liquefeito vai começar e as receitas associadas ficam disponíveis para o Governo”, lê-se na explicação detalhada sobre a ação de ‘rating’.

Primeira exportação GNL será feira entre Outubro e Novembro – INP

A informação foi dada à Reuters pelo Instituto Nacional de Petróleo (INP), numa altura em que a Europa enfrenta uma crise de fornecimento de gás.

Citando a Welligence Energy Analytics, a Reuters reporta que o navio-tanque BP.L LNG, da Inglaterra, já chegou ao largo do norte de Moçambique.

“Em relação à exportação de GNL, será para os mercados europeus, pois a BP está comprometida em levar os recursos de gás para a Europa”, disse o INP em resposta por e-mail à Reuters.

Toda a produção anual de gás da Coral Sul – 3,4 milhões de toneladas – foi contratada à BP por 20 anos.

O carregamento de GNL mocambicano ajudará a aliviar a escassez de gás na Europa, à medida que o inverno se aproxima, após a invasão da Ucrânia por Moscovo, em Fevereiro, e decisão posterior da Rússia de reduzir o fornecimento às principais economias da União Europeia.
