According to information released by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the government has transferred around 77 million meticais to the communities affected by the exploitation of mineral resources. According to a document released by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the transfer is part of Law 29/2022 of December 30, which approved the State Budget (OE) for 2023.
According to the report on the Economic and Social Plan and the State Budget for 2023, the transaction represents 100% of what was planned, noting that in comparative terms, only 44 million meticais were channeled in 2022, an increase of 25 million meticais.
“Of the communities that benefited, the highlight goes to those living in the districts of Moatize (Benga) and Marara (Kachembe), in the province of Tete, which received 15.3 million meticais and 2.8 million meticais each, with the revenue coming from coal mining,” he said.
In Cabo Delgado, the community of Namanhumbir, in the district of Montepuez, received 22.6 million meticais, from a set of revenues from the extraction of ruby, graphite and vanadium.
In addition to these communities, the government transferred 13.3 million meticais to Inhambane province, of which 6 million to Maimelane, in Inhassoro, and 7 million to Pande, in Govuro district. This revenue comes from the exploitation of natural gas.
The provinces of Nampula, Zambézia and Manica received the least resources in 2023, with amounts reaching 8.2 million, 6.2 million and 1.3 million meticais, respectively.
