World Bank interested in supporting Phanda Nkuwa Hydropower Project

According to “Notícias” the interest in this regard was expressed yesterday in Maputo by Zayra Romo, head of the Infrastructure Programme at the World Bank, as part of a conference in the capital city with potential strategic investors pre-qualified in the tender to select the partner for the project’s development.

Zayra Romo said, however, that his institution is still waiting for a formal request from the Mozambican Government so that, within the bank’s internal structure, the project can be analyzed and a decision made according to the amounts involved.

Meanwhile, the conference also brought together MIREME, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Ministry of Land and Environment (MTA), the Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports (APIEX) among other no less important actors.

Segundo o “Notícias” o interesse nesse sentido foi manifestada ontem, em Maputo, por Zayra Romo, líder de Programa de Infra-Estruturas no Banco Mundial, no quadro da realização, na capital do país, de uma conferência com os potenciais investidores estratégicos pré-qualificados no concurso para a selecção do parceiro para o desenvolvimento do projecto.

Zayra Romo disse, entretanto, que a sua instituição aguarda ainda uma solicitação formal do Governo moçambicano para que, dentro da estrutura interna do banco, se possa analisar o projecto e se tome a decisão consoante os montantes envolvidos.

Entretanto, a conferência juntou também o MIREME, o Ministério da Economia e Finanças (MEF), o Ministério da Terra e Ambiente (MTA), a Agência para a Promoção de Investimento e Exportações (APIEX) dentre outros actores não menos importantes.

LAM announces resumption of flights after cancellations due to breakdown

As a result of the repair of the two aircraft, the flight operation returned to normal yesterday, Monday (26-09), and passengers who were affected by the cancellation on Sunday were transported to their destinations.

The Maputo/Quelimane/Maputo flight carrying the passengers in question left at 6:10 am. Passengers on the Maputo/Beira/Maputo route were also transported, this time on two dedicated flights. The first departed at 6:35 AM and the second at 7:30 AM.

The Maputo/Tete/Maputo route also had two departures on Monday morning, the first at 6:00 am and the second at 11:10 am.

However, according to “A Verdade”, all other flights depart at the scheduled times.

Como resultado da reparação das duas aeronaves, a operação de voos voltou ao normal ontem, segunda-feira (26-09), e os passageiros que foram afectados pelo cancelamento no domingo foram transportados para os seus destinos.

O voo Maputo/Quelimane/Maputo que transportava os passageiros em questão partiu às 6:10 da manhã. Os passageiros da rota Maputo/Beira/Maputo também foram transportados, desta vez em dois voos dedicados. O primeiro partiu às 6:35 da manhã e o segundo às 7:30 da manhã.

A rota Maputo/Tete/Maputo também teve duas partidas na segunda-feira de manhã, a primeira às 6:00 da manhã e a segunda às 11:10 da manhã.

Contudo, segundo escreve o “A Verdade”, todos os outros voos partem às horas programadas.

Mphanda Nkuwa Hydroelectric Project gathers potential investors

This is a technical, interactive session to clarify project and tender issues, the status of the review and update of the technical, environmental, economic, financial, market studies, including issues of legislation, associated regulations and the legal and institutional framework in the sector.

During the conference, the project’s international financial institution partners, such as the World Bank (WB) group and the African Development Bank (AfDB), will speak about their role in the project, address issues of financing and guarantees for the project. Once the conference is over, the bidders will visit the sites over the next two days where the project will be implemented in Tete province.

Called the Mphanda Nkuwa Project Bidders Conference, the event will bring together MIREME, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Ministry of Land and Environment (MTA), the Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports (APIEX) among other important stakeholders.

Trata-se de uma sessão técnica, interactiva, de esclarecimento sobre questões do projecto e do concurso, o estágio da revisão e actualização dos estudos técnicos, ambientais, económicos, financeiros, mercado, incluindo questões de legislação, regulamentação associada e o quadro legal e institucional no sector.

Durante a conferência, as instituições financeiras internacionais parceiras do projecto, como o grupo Banco Mundial (WB) e o Banco Africano de Desenvolvimento (BAD), irão falar sobre o seu papel no projecto, abordar questões de financiamento e das garantias para o empreendimento. Terminada a Conferência, os concorrentes irão visitar os locais nos dois dias seguintes, onde será implantado o projecto, na província de Tete.

“Fura Star” – The Rare-sized Ruby mined in Montepuez

The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy says that the gemstone is considered to be one of the finest gems ever mined, and has been named the Star of Hole.

The Star of Hole ruby will be put up for private auction next month, and is currently on display in Dubai.

The ministry also explains that after the sale, and as provided by law, the government will determine the corresponding Production Tax.

Explica ainda o ministério que, após a venda, e nos termos previstos na lei, o Governo irá apurar o Imposto sobre a Produção correspondente.

CTA expects repositioning of the tourism sector with FIKANI

Speaking at the launch of Tourism Week in celebration of World Tourism Day and the launch of the 8th edition of the International Tourism Fair – FIKANI, the Vice President of the CTA, Vasco Manhiça, said that this is the time to exalt the resilience that this sector showed during this dark period whose reflection was the decrease in guests by 45% in 2020 compared to 2019, and the decrease in its level of contribution in the Gross Domestic Product to 1.3% in 2020 compared to 1.6% in 2019.

“We are pleased to note that the sector is currently showing signs of recovery, as is the case with other economic sectors, and there are high expectations that the Package of Economic Acceleration Measures, announced by the Government, will further reinvigorate this trend,” said Vasco Manhiça.

According to the press conference, Manhiça also referred that the FIKANI should be the mirror of the Mozambican tourism product and an opportunity for the private sector in particular, to demonstrate all the potentialities, the tourism packages and services available to the market.

“This Fair could not be held at a better time, as we believe it will help the sector to position itself in terms of tourism products and the companies that participate in it will be better exposed to the regional and international market,” he stressed.

CTA espera reposicionamento do sector do turismo com realização do FIKANI

Falando no lançamento da Semana do Turismo em celebração do Dia Mundial do Turismo e o lançamento da 8ª edição da Feira Internacional do Turismo – FIKANI, o Vice-presidente da CTA, Vasco Manhiça, referiu que este é o momento de se exaltar a resiliência que este sector demostrou durante esse período tenebroso cujo reflexo foi a diminuição de hóspedes em 45% em 2020 face a 2019, e o decréscimo do seu nível de contribuição no Produto Interno Bruto para 1,3% em 2020 comparativamente a 1,6% em 2019.

“Apraz-nos notar que actualmente, o sector exibe sinais de recuperação, à semelhança do que sucede com os restantes sectores económicos, havendo elevadas expectativas que o Pacote de Medidas de Aceleração Económica, anunciado pelo Governo, venha revigorar ainda mais esta tendência”, salientou Vasco Manhiça.

Segundo aponta a noita de imprensa, Manhiça referiu ainda que, o FIKANI deverá ser o espelho do produto turístico moçambicano e uma oportunidade para o sector privado em particular, demonstrar todas as potencialidades, os pacotes turísticos e serviços à disposição do mercado.

“Esta Feira não podia ser realizada em melhor momento, pois acreditamos que ajudará o sector a se posicionar em termos de produtos turísticos e as empresas que nela participarem melhor estarão expostas ao mercado regional e internacional”, frisou.
