MIREME seeks investment for Mphanda Nkuwa

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), Carlos Zacarias, invited British companies to invest in the construction of Mphanda Nkuwa Hydroelectric Power Station, projected to generate 1500 Megawatts of energy.

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, made the invitation in a panel discussion at Chathan House, in London, United Kingdom, on the role of the energy sector as a catalyst for diversification and development of Mozambique, which was attended by journalists, businessmen and local government officials.

“This is a structuring and fundamental project for the energy transition and will respond to the consumption needs of the national industry, consolidate Mozambique’s position as an energy generation pole in the region, and increase the capacity to generate revenues” said Zacarias.

Also in this panel, the minister referred to the country’s potential in new and renewable energies, namely hydro, wind and solar, to meet domestic and regional needs.

BCI finances the agribusiness sector

BCI will participate in the 4th edition of Mozgrow, the largest meeting dedicated to potential operators in the agribusiness sector, and intends to present financing solutions for projects related to agriculture.

The agribusiness sector is crucial to the development of the national economy and access to financing, especially in the agricultural sector, is still a challenge.

At stake are several risks that hinder the injection of money by the bank in projects in the branch. To reverse the scenario, the BCI has created a financing line.

“BCI has been financing the agribusiness sector since 2001 in a specialized way. We have created a team to seek solutions outside the standard financing that the bank has available, this is because the financing lines for the productive sector present subsidized interest rates, which result from partnerships we have with other entities with the same purpose,” said Anésio Guambe, coordinator of the Specialized Business Office of BCI, quoted by País.

The bank, committed to agribusiness in Mozambique, will expose, in the fourth edition of Mozgrow, its products and services aimed at reducing the challenges of the sector.
“We have special credit lines designed and adjusted to the national context in terms of prices or interest rates. I’m referring to small producers, large companies, including for small and medium enterprises and associations,” says Guambe.

Aligned with the objective of consolidating the agriculture business in the country, the banking institution sees, in the largest national agribusiness fair, an opportunity to exchange ideas and financing solutions for the agribusiness sub-sector in Mozambique.

It should be noted that BCI announced, in 2018, the availability of 500 million Meticals, to finance national companies in the agribusiness sector.

BCI financia sector do agro-negócio

Refiro-me a pequenos produtores, grandes empresas, inclusive para pequenas e médias empresas e associações”, refere Guambe.

BCI reopens the first ATMs in Afung

Two BCI ATMs are operational since Sunday, June 26, in Afungi, district of Palma, in Cabo Delgado province. They are the first to reopen after the interruption of economic activity due to the military instability in the northern part of the country.

With these ATM booths, the BCI is once again assisting the populations of the Afungi peninsula region and the Quitunda community, a village built to resettle families from the oil and gas project perimeter in Palma. This is a concerted action with the strategic partner of Area 1.

A pioneer in the district, BCI was the first bank to provide financial services in Palma, since 2012, and for many years the only financial institution there, becoming a privileged partner in the Gas exploration project, throughout its value chain.

It should be recalled that BCI currently leads in the main balance sheet indicators: assets, deposits, credits, and constitutes, with more than 200 business units and a vast ATM and POS network, the largest commercial banking network in the country.

SocGen is also betting on the green economy, and is making efforts to raise about 317 billion dollars, through its unit based in Ivory Coast, to finance sustainable projects in the coming years.
